This year’s Summer Club was our 21st so we took “Celebration” as our theme.
We looked at how we celebrate different stages in our lives and, in particular, how Christians celebrate baptism, confirmation, communion and marriage.

Throughout the week the children cut out and stuck material onto squares to represent the themes for the 21 years. They have then been sewn into place and attached to a banner to celebrate our 21 years. A lot of work went on behind the scenes to get this to such a high standard, it is beautiful and very striking. It will be displayed in the church for all to see. A particular thank you to Louise Robertson who planned the banner and to Kathleen Hird and her daughter Fiona Blunsden who prepared and stitched all the children's work.

The Summer Club is for children who will be attending Primary School after the holidays and starts each morning at 9.15am with a warm up of fun songs and games. We will then have a chat about a type of celebration before the children divide into age groups and take part in games, crafts and other activities. The groups are Balloons, Candles, Streamers, and Fireworks.

Each day one group will visit The Music Room on Alford Place, travelling by coach. Here they will get a chance to play various instruments and make a celebratory noise!

A snack and juice is provided part way through the morning.
At the end of the morning we all meet together again for a fun (sometimes wet) game, and to find out what we have discovered during the morning.
After a final prayer, the children leave for home at 12.15pm.

On Saturday we have a rehearsal for the following day’s church service then, this year, we are having a party. Garry Seagraves the magician is coming to entertain us.

We will lead the morning service on Sunday 10th August and show the congregation what we have been doing throughout the week. This year we will also look at the last 21 years and we hope that helpers and children from previous years will join us at the service and for coffee and cake afterwards.
It is a fun week for everyone, children and helpers.

If you wish to take part in all the fun, bring an adult on Monday morning to sign the registration form, then send them home and enjoy yourself! It costs £1 a day (which covers the cost of snack, the trip to The Music Room and the magician). To save bringing money everyday you can pay £6 for the whole week.

Looking forward to seeing you!

(Be patient! It may take a while to download.)

This picture was taken at the Celebration meal at the Inn at the Park on Friday 1st August 2003. 150 people have helped over the last 21 years, 49 of them enjoyed a very good meal, a blether and a Power Point presentation with photos from each year!
Ian Dick and Pat Brown are the only two who have helped at every one!

Top For the service on Sunday, all the children and leaders wore T- shirts they had decorated during the week.

After the service three of the four leader cut the celebration cake. They were, Marian Dey, Ida Scott and Fiona Firth. Unfortunately, Pauline Runcie, who organised one year of the 21 was not there.
