FORUM AFTERNOON - Sunday 5 November
The future of our church is for everyone to share
The Church of Scotland Assembly Council is currently exploring the future of the Church
and is encouraging congregations to discuss some major issues regarding a vision for the
new century, and the process of change which will inevitably be a part of that vision. In
Ferryhill we are fortunate to have made major changes in our church buildings which enable
us to have greater freedom to use them in ways beneficial to the community. This also
allows far more people to be involved actively in the life and mission of our parish
church. We are being encouraged to consult, assess priorities, listen, enable and
encourage ALL members to have a voice in this process, not just elders and office bearers.
The Kirk Session has, therefore, decided to hold a Forum afternoon on Sunday November 5th,
beginning with lunch following morning worship, and continuing until 3.30pm. It will
enable us to:-
* look at the present experience of our church and how we carry out our mission in
practical ways (much of which is detailed in our Annual Handbook)
* explore the vision for the future of the church and how change might take place
* recognise the signs of positive growth which are happening currently.
This Forum is an opportunity for ALL who are a part of our church family, whether members
or not, to have a voice in the future of the church. Please look out for leaflets in the
Foyer during October which will enable you to register for this important congregational
event.

THE FOYER COFFEE SHOP
is proving to be a popular meeting place on weekday mornings. Local residents, playgroup
mums and people working in the area keep the volunteer staff busy, and are very
appreciative of their efforts. One connoisseur has judged the Monday cooked breakfast to
be the best in Aberdeen - have you tried it yet?

COMMUNITY COUNCIL NEWS
Following the successful Community Gala held in the Duthie Park on Sunday 10th September
the members of the Community Council wish to thank all those who contributed by actually
helping with the Gala and also those who came along to spend money. Over £1000 was made
which will be used to benefit local needs and our Charity this year the RNLI. We have
already sent £200 to the RNLI from the sale of prints at the Art Exhibition and will now
be able to contribute from the Gala proceeds. A Raffle is being run during October - the
first prize is one of Eric Auld's "Harbour Closed" prints donated by Lloyds TSB,
and framed at no cost by Hargreaves and Christie of Cotton Street. Please buy a 25p ticket
for this worthwhile cause. The Songs of Praise was held as usual and was deemed to be as
successful as ever. David Haggart has to be complimented on his compering of the
proceedings ably assisted by the Rev Hugh Kerr from Ruthrieston South and the Rev. David
Thom from Ferryhill Parish Church. The UDI Aberdeen City Band provided their usual high
standard of music for this worthwhile annual event. Evelyn Glennie's piece 'A Little
Prayer', arranged for brass band, was very impressive and much enjoyed.
The Council's last millennium event is a Local Quiz based on general knowledge open to any
team of four from any business or group which is based in Ferryhill. We have some entries
but need more to make this a resounding success. Phone John Runcie on 585754.
In October a new Community Council will be announced, elected to serve the community for
the next three years. There are always places on one of our many committees.

WEB SITES
If you are on the Internet, make a point of visiting our very own web site at
www.ferryhillparishchurch.org.uk - you'll find lots of
interesting information and some beautiful photographs. E-mail your friends with details
of the site. Also worth a visit is the new Aberdeen Presbytery site at www.presbaberdeen.org; like our own site it has
been designed by the Revd Fred Coutts. If you are not an internet user or a computer buff
and would like to know what this is all about - make use of one of the computers in the
Atrium Gallery. Just ask someone to show you how very easy it is to operate the system,
and in no time you too can be "on-line".
