FORUM AFTERNOON - Sunday 5 November
There may not be fireworks , but the Forum arranged by the Kirk Session on Sunday 5th November promises to be an important and exciting occasion. Don't miss it. It will start with lunch after morning worship, and continue until 3.30pm. The aims are:
* to look at the present experience of our church and how we carry out our mission in practical ways (much of which is detailed in our Annual Handbook)
* to explore the vision for the future of the church and how change might take place
* to recognise the signs of positive growth which are happening currently.
This Forum is an opportunity for ALL who are a part of our church family, whether members or not, to have a voice in the future of the church.

HAVE YOU VISITED THE FOYER COFFEE SHOP? It is open 9.30 to 11.30 Monday to Saturday. Cooked breakfasts are available on Mondays. You can combine this with a visit to the Archive Room in the basement - "Aberdeen's smallest museum". It contains a fascinating collection of documents, photographs and artefacts relating to the history of the Church in Ferryhill.

"SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS"
David Haggart's new book telling the story of Ferryhill and its churches will be on sale during November. If you are expecting a rather staid congregational history of interest only to kirk members, be prepared for a surprise. "Showers of Blessings" looks at all aspects of life as Aberdeen's first suburb develops from Victorian times, through two world wars and into the era of North Sea oil. With over 40 illustrations, it will make a splendid Christmas present.

CHRISTMAS FAIR
NOVEMBER IS THE MONTH when preparations have to be made for our Christmas Fair. This very important event takes place on Saturday 9th December from 10.00am to 4.00pm. It is important because we have still a long way to go before our £90k loan from the Church of Scotland is paid off. There are all sorts of ways in which you can help. Baking, making, donating - whatever is appropriate for you. Fill a presentation tin with goods to the value of £2. Dress a Doll or create a similar competition item. Bottles, Christmas Crafts, holiday souvenirs - these are just a few of the stalls that need to be stocked. And, of course, workers will be required on the day. Let Mary Notman [E-Mail] know your availability.

AUCTION
BUT FIRST THERE IS THE SILENT AUCTION
! Friday 17th November is the date when you can have fun "bidding, re-bidding and out-bidding" to secure the items that catch your fancy. You don't have to wait around for the auctioneer to reach the lot you are interested in - you can bid straight away, and keep an eye on things throughout the evening to ensure that you stay ahead of the game. The auction runs from 7.30 to 9.00pm, but before we reach that stage, donations of good quality sale items are required. Anything except clothing will be accepted. The church will be open on 15th and 16th November for you to drop off items. If you need help, phone Graham Craigen [E-Mail]

THE FERRYHILL 2000 VIDEO
It is already becoming difficult to remember how our building looked before the alterations were carried out. To have a permanent record of how the architect's plans were put into effect, be sure to acquire a copy of the video, skillfully compiled by Fiona Firth. It tells the whole story from "as it was" to "as it is" including the Opening Ceremony and celebrations. At only £5 it is a bargain. Order direct from Fiona [E-mail] or fill in a form in the Foyer.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL NEWS

On Monday 6th November the recently elected Ferryhill Community Council is to meet. Ours was the only Council to have a full complement of members at the election. On the 12th November the Council's award ceremony is to take place. This year the Community Council Cup awarded for outstanding Community Service is going to Mary Marr for her many years of dedicated work in the church and her long association with the Community Council, through running the Lunch Club, since it was started by Maureen Strachan and Jimmy Shearer over 20 years ago.
