THE FOYER COFFEE SHOP
is proving to be a very popular venue, offering quality refreshments at reasonable prices.
A few more volunteers are required to serve the customers. Can you spare one morning per
fortnight to help? Contact Mary Notman
to get more details.
NEXT MONTH "Parish
News" will come out in "maxi" format and will be delivered to every
household in the parish. This happens three times a year and we need a few more
distributors to ensure complete coverage. Please tell
Rae
Leslie if you are willing to deliver in any of the following (not necessarily the
whole street): Crown St, Marywell St, Willowbank Road, Rosebank Terrace, Portland Street,
Riverside View, Prince's Gate.
SPREAD THE WORD and
bring your friends to a marvellous evening of music in the church on Friday 23rd March.
Five of Aberdeen's finest professional musicians are giving their services free to raise
funds for Christian Aid. Anne Dunbar, Colin
Hunter, Lesley Wilson, Robert Howie and Moira Hunter will present a programme of popular
classical music by Mozart, Schubert, Glinka, Poulenc, and Francaix. There will also be a
performance of a new work by Fraser Kelman, a pupil at Oldmachar Academy. Tickets, price
£5 (concessions £4) on sale at the door.
YES THIS IS 2001, but
the work of Ferryhill Towards 2000 continues as we strive to pay off our £90k loan from
the General Trustees. Watch this space for a possible change of name and details of future
events, but in the meantime if you have any FT2000 collection boxes ready to be emptied,
please bring them to the church or ask your elder to collect.
ARE YOU OVER 60 or
can't you remember? The Psychology Department at Aberdeen University requires senior
citizens to help with research into the affect of ageing on memory. If you can spare an
hour and a half to do some tests in early March, the Church will receive £4. Mary Notman
has details.

The Minister Writes:
Dear Friends,
I recently came across these 'beatitudes' which I think say many meaningful things
from the perspective of those often incorrectly thought of as 'handicapped.' The truth is,
of course, that we are all 'handicapped' in some way or another; it's only that some of us
are better at hiding our handicaps than others. The authorship of these 'beatitudes' is
not known but I feel they must have been written out of experience.
They are entitled 'Beatitudes
for friends of handicapped people.'
Blessed are you who take time to listen to difficult speech,
for you help us to know that if we persevere we can be understood.
Blessed are you who walk with us in public placesand
ignore the stares of strangers
for in your companionship we find havens of relaxation.
Blessed are you who never bid us to 'hurry up'
and more blessed you who do not snatch our tasks from us,
for often we need time rather than help.
Blessed are you who stand beside us when we enter new and untried adventures,
for our failures will be outweighed by the times when we surprise ourselves and you.
Blessed are you who ask for our help,
for our greatest need is to be needed.
Blessed are you who help us with the graciousness of Christ
who did not bruise the reed nor quench the flax,
for often we need the help we cannot ask for.
Blessed are you when, by all these things,
you assure us that the thing that makes us individuals
is not in our peculiar muscles, nor in our wounded nervous system,
but in the God-given self that no infirmity can confine.
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and know that you give us reassurance
that could never be spoken in words,
for you deal with us as God has dealt with all his children.
Insights there for all of us to take on board about how to treat each person as an
individual in his/her own right.
Yours
Ian Dick
